Buona Sera! Welcome to Poesia

Poesia “Po-eh-see-ah” means “Poetry” and whole lot more in Italian. Poesia reflects the light of romance and magnifies it to become that essential nature of love that makes every moment in life an adventure.

Francesco d’Ippolito dreamed of creating Poesia when he was a young boy and took his first job making cappuccino at a neighbor’s cafe. Decades later, floating on the Mediterranean Sea in Calabria one Summer with a friend,  he began systematically, step-by-step to make his dream a reality. What would it take to bring the magic of the Italian coast to San Francisco? The warmth of the Italian kitchen, the fresh flavors and light-hearted air? Since 2008, San Francisco is home to Poesia. Nestled in the vibrant and colorful neighborhood of the Castro, Poesia Restaurant, is a dream come true.

What can you expect at Poesia? Great food and great service. With Francesco directly managing the operations, and the multi-cultural staff at Poesia operating as a tightly knit family, the neighbors and tourists from around the world immediately feel welcome and attended to with great care. From the warmth of the greeting at the door, to the fresh baked bread & focaccia at the table, the staff at Poesia strives to deliver your dream evening out.

Poesia’s full bar attracts a crowd for hand-crafted specialty cocktails combining local fruits and innovative liquors. The extensive wine list is actively curated by our own Sommelier for flavor and seasonal value. When you are ready to select from the evening’s menu you’ll be choosing from dishes prepared based on a special stash of favorite family recipes from Francesco’s own Mama. Each traditional recipe is enlivened with the freshest pick from California’s daily market. All pastas are hand-made each day and sauces are gently simmered for hours and hours to prepare a plate worthy of your enjoyment.

For Francesco and the staff at Poesia the restaurant has become a breath of silken air from the light-hearted Italian seaside. A dream come true. As we silently play the classic movies on the wall from Italy’s “dolce vita” “sweet life” we are delighted to look around us and hear so many call Poesia their own sweet and special place for an evening’s vacation. When was the last time you took a deep breath of Poesia and had a great night out? We hope to welcome you soon!
